The new technology in cars is amazing. Everyone knows that every couple of years, the features of cars goes though a radical change. It’s not just that the car isn’t your father’s automobile – it is that it’s not your automobile of five years ago. Sometimes the car upgrades enhance the driving experience. Other times, they ensure your safety. Here is some of the new technology in cars that you can look forward to in 2010.
While GPS devices have been standard on luxury cars for some time, now they are going down market and even mid-size cars have global navigation systems. Drivers will just have to enter their destination and they will be guided there through voice and visual directions.
Fuel economy is a concern with higher gas prices. In fact, many drivers switch off the air conditioning when the weather cools down in the fall. But new car models take care of switching off the A/C and other non-essential systems automatically.
Air bags have become standard safety features. But, new curtain air bags help to reduce head injury for people in both front and back seats. These devices come standard on many high end cars and are an option in some mid-price range vehicles.
The “black box” technology that has been used in airplanes for many decades has now come to the new car. These can record all sorts of data including the speed at which you were driving and the location of the car. This can be useful for insurance claims and can also be introduced as evidence in case of a lawsuit.
Many hybrid cars now feature run flat tires. This means that you can drive for up to 50 miles with no air pressure. This gives drivers the chance to get to the tire shop without having to pull over to the side of the road and change a tire.
While some of the features listed in this article were inconceivable 10 years ago, we haven’t seen the end of new technologies in cars yet. In fact, cars that park themselves and even drive themselves are on the drawing boards.
