Things You Should Consider While Driving in France

March 16th, 2010 No comments

If you decide to drive on the roads of France, leave behind the papers that should be produced when a check is conducted by the police as it is customary on the part of the French police to conduct surprise checks to ensure that everything is perfect law-wise in driving.

If you are asked by a policeman in France for your documents while you are driving you must produce four different documents; an official ID card, driving license, car ownership proofs and insurance documents. The reason why police seem so strict concerning the producing papers is that car crime in France is a crucial problem.

National card or a passport would serve as the ID card. Foreign licenses too are accepted in France but they are valid up to a period of one year from the time of your arrival in the country. Cart gris or grey card is the official card ownership document and the cart vert or green card is the authorized insurance document.

In case of your ownership of pre-owned cars be careful in providing the related documents which you should have obtained before your arrival in France if asked by the police. You may be subjected to fine in case you do not produce them on enquiry.

Always make photocopies of your car related documents and never leave your insurance and ownership papers in the car. Car crime in France is widespread and you don’t want to be a victim without the appropriate papers to report to the police.

Always keep it in mind that you are driving in a foreign country and things are a little different in France. It is unlawful to turn right at a red light in France where as in the US it is okay. Otherwise driving should be a pleasant experience in France.

Drivers from your right are given prime concern and consciousness about it is essential while driving in France. The sizes of the two roads and T junctions are not considered in this matter. There is an expectation of slowing down the speed and hence as a matter of fact French drivers convert smaller paths into busy main roads. On traffic circles of course, priority is given to the one already on the circle.

The speed limit on busy roads in France is 50km p/h. Reduce your speed to 50 km p/h while you are driving on busy roads. When you spot the name of a place in black displayed within a red bordered white sign you should know that you are entering into a built up area. Know that you are going to leave the built up area if you see the same sign with a red diagonal line.

130 km p/h is the speed allowed on auto routes in France which are the biggest motorways. The speed permitted on dual carriageways is of course 110km p/h where the limit is 90km p/h while driving on smaller district highways. These speed limits are not to be displayed on the roads and this is a disadvantage and so you are expected to be aware of these rules.

Driving laws in France shares alot in common with other parts of continental Europe. If you want to travel with less responsibility then look into French high speed TGV trains.

Cabs And Vans Made By Ford

March 16th, 2010 No comments

If you need your commercial vehicle to be specialized to your needs, Ford might have the Transit for you. They have multiple variations on both the chassis and the cab. This workhorse of a vehicle is available in such a massive array of different styles, colours and sizes that just picking what you want can prove to be intimidating. Ford seems to have the goal of covering every single light commercial truck market with every possible permutation of a single vehicle.

With this array of permutations, customers can basically have whatever they want or need and the vehicle is tailored to their requirements in a way that no other light commercial vehicle can come close to.

The chassis cab is basically the standard Transit panel van set up without the van part. Basically it comes with a cab fastened onto the skeleton of the frame. This frame has been designed with fixing points throughout the frame that is able to take all forms of load carrying add ons. The buyer gets the bare bones from Ford and then they are able to pick and choose whatever bolt on they want attached behind the cab. These are professionally installed by specialist companies who will create and join whatever bolt on options you wish or need. Ford also offers their own good selection of factory built chassis cab based variants that Ford calls the Transit One Stop range. These are ready to drive models that are constructed in house by Ford as ordered through the dealer network. The fact that this vehicle is so brilliant in its creation and application is what makes it extremely popular and still growing in popularity.

Even if you concentrate your attention solely on the chassis cabs, you still have a huge variation of choices. There are four wheelbases for you to choose from, they range from 3,137mm short to the 3,959mm long and then add to that the long wheelbase EF or extended frame, you ad another 40cm to the length of the LWB model’s ladder frame. On all models with the exclusion of the short wheelbase, there is also the option of dual rear wheels in order to help boost the payload capacity and the traction. The LWB and the LWB extended also offers a double cab option, with this option, you have extra passenger capacity because of the second row of seats.

Out of all the options available, it seems the most popular engine choices are the 2.0 or 2.4 litre turbo diesel engines. From there, your choice is either the TDdi or the TDCi engine technologies. The first is the conventional turbocharged diesel engine; the second is the more advanced common rail configuration. There is also the option of the 2.3 litre petrol alternative that you can order as an LPG conversion. With all of these options, on of Ford’s main drives is to lower the ownership costs and improve the fuel economy. They have extended the service intervals to 15,000 miles in that same.

Irish second hand Cars Market Declines

March 16th, 2010 No comments

As money gets tighter and the world recession hits every one of us it not strange that new car sales are down 60% since January 1st. This will continue and wont change

People who have money will not go spending it on expensive motors, (what would everyone think and say) and are choosing to wait and see what happens in the markets and economy.

Those that have second hand cars are also not changing their vehicles unless its broken beyond repair or crashed and are repairing it instead. Ask any car mechanic mechanic and he will tell you he has never been busier. So too are all those industries associated with the motor industry from the guy who repairs second hand clutches to the scrap yards and car dismantlers as recycling parts is now the in thing to do.

Before when Ireland was at its height of success people were buying new cars or replacement cars when the bill to repair the car was more than 200 euro, getting a trade in on their old car and upgrading to a newer model.

Now however the money is tighter, banks aren’t lending and people who had no problem getting loans a year before now couldn’t rent a bike as the credit disappears.

Recently I found out about a guy who was trading in his 07 land cruiser because the tyres were bald. He could afford the monthly repayments to the bank, but not the 1200 euro to replace his tyres.

Now the banks will not give loan approval on another vehicle and he’s stuck with a vehicle he can’t a repair as is the situation with lots of people in Ireland today. So what do we do.

Answer is nothing as long as the economic crisis continues then the car dealers will not be able to sell cars, new or secondhand and will not see the record breaking figures of two years ago again.

Car dealers with cars for sale will now have these motors on their carlots for a while longer
