Subaru Impreza GX What A Ride

June 23rd, 2010 No comments

It’s lashing rain down. Night closed in hours ago and the torrential weather is pure El Nino. The humid day has given way to a wet and windy night as the Impreza’s headlights struggle to penetrate the darkness, lightning a perilous path home.

Welcome to the Impreza GX. This model won’t get even half the attention of its limelight-basking WRX big sister. Yet the GX represents a greater improvement over the car it replaces than does the WRX. Let’s just say that the GX contributed more than any other model to the Impreza range.

Blessed with a whole raft of changes, both underneath and cosmetically, the Impreza GX offers plenty. It now stands alone as the entry level Impreza, filling the gap where the LX once sat. Anti-lock brakes, in-dash CD player cruise control, driver and passenger airbags and driver’s seat height adjustment are all standard, with sports seats and sports suspension also thrown into the mix.

On paper, the GX should stick to the road like kids stick to their version of the truth. It does better. The firmness of the ride can be harsh on the smaller lumps and bumps, but it doesn’t cause discomfort. Think WRX ride quality and tone it down just a fraction. The GX feels dynamically secure, too, tracking sweetly across bad roads and maintaining a neutral handling balance.

The steering is direct and nicely weighted with good feedback. The pronounced side bolstering of the front seats holds you tighter than a drunk accountant on a Friday night.

For your money, the Subaru GX offers an impressive package that, this time around, has taken more than a few cues from its big sister. And it’s a much better car for it. Big sisters aren’t all bad either.

Why not try it yourself.

Which Is Stronger? Comparing Reinforced Concrete Buildings Vs Steel Buildings In Tornadoes

June 22nd, 2010 No comments

Often, a hurricane, earthquake, or tornado takes the world by surprise and it is definitely not a pleasant one. Although the weatherman may have been able to give a little bit of notice, enough to go out and stock up on milk and bread, it is certainly not enough time to start ensuring your building is safely built. If you know that you will be living in a place that tends to get tornadoes, it is crucial to plan before you move what type of place you want to move into so that you will be sure that your family is as safe as possible. But when you compare reinforced concrete buildings vs steel buildings in surviving tornadoes, which one comes out ahead?

You should be responsible and only look to move to a building that meets certain criteria because once the tornado is on its way, there is no time for anyone to begin to make your place stronger. Whatever it has in place already is the tools that will have to suffice when the storm strikes, so naturally, you hope that it is a strong structure to begin with.

If you are confident that the building you are living in is the strongest it can be, than the chances that it will survive most storms is very high. This is important even if you manage to get far away from the disaster area because most insurance companies will not reimburse you for natural storms and occurrences so you will really be out of luck if your home is struck.

The latest research of today points to steel buildings as a better choice than one made of concrete, even if it is reinforced. This is because the concrete is often known to crumble when the wind that hits it is stronger than it can take, which steel has the essential capability of being flexible. In an intense storm, it can bend and move slightly, which lets it survive through harder hits. This is preferable for the carport especially.

Instead of simply trying to withstand the storm stoically, steel is able to yield to its force. This is better to deal with the intensity than the resistance of concrete because by simply resisting, this material reaches its capacity with a lower-level tornado. The yielding is critical in being able to make it throw even the worst of storms.

Steel has a second important quality that makes it a good choice, which is the metal conductors found inside its structure. These are able to act as conduits of shock waves, moving the shock to the system around the building so that the entire edifice absorbs the shock at once, rather than just the area that was hit. Since the hit is now less concentrated, the structure is better able to withstand the tornado.

It goes without saying that there is more to a strong structure than simply the material that it is made out of. If the building is not well-designed and the engineers did not plan it out well, than it will be tough to stand up to even the smallest of tornadoes. In cases such as these, a concrete building that was well-built would be a wiser choice than a steel one that was not.

The last disclaimer is that sometimes, a tornado is so powerful that it does not matter which is better, reinforced concrete buildings versus steel buildings in surviving tornadoes. Unfortunately, there are cases where neither will do the trick. Luckily, these times are few and far between and you just have to hope that you will not have to live to see one of them.

Offering state-of-the-art engineering and production values, these future steel buildings are among the best in the industry. The metal buildings come in practical and efficient designs. A wide range of future steel buildings, such as the metal storage buildings, is available at affordable prices.

Guide On How To Buy Your Enclosed Trailers For Your Business

June 22nd, 2010 No comments

With such a variety of enclosed trailers, it has become very important that you should do research to know what actually your requirement is. There’s no need of overspending on the accessories that are not required in your field of usage of cargo. You just have to calculate what accessories are essential, giving room for the requirements and accessories that maybe required in the future.

The enclosed trailer is included in a very essential investment which is then used to tow the cargo for your respective job. Be it your bike, or vintage car, or a SUV, or anything for your home or business.

Some of the necessary guidelines are given as under that how to Choose the Right Enclosed Trailer for your respective type of requirement: What do you need the trailer for:This is the most basic and the most important factor to be considered while buying a trailer. It would largely affect the size and the features of the trailer. Taking an example that if you need a trailer for your Vintage car or some SUV, you’ll require to have the 8.5 feet tandem axle trailer with the provision of a door.

The distance to be covered by the trailer: It is also one of the important point which is required to be pondered upon while choosing an ideal enclosed trailer. If you are taking your trailer around the town, then it would be fine to have it with standard exterior and with the basic features. If you have to take your trailer to large distances, you will have to have several more features and more upgrades too. Like a spare tire, tie-downs, stabilizers, latch to hold back the door and LED tail lights too. Like if you are going far away, then there would be different terrains you’ll be travelling upon. So you will have to get the special upgrades required for that specific terrain.

The Type of Cargo:The nature of cargo to be towed will have a direct influence on the options you have for the interiors of the trailer. For example if you are carrying something with proper temperature regulations, then you got to have an air conditioner facility in the trailer. You may even require taller cargo than the ordinary one, so as they can carry the over sized load.

Will your Trailer be used for marketing:If you want to use your trailer for marketing purpose, then you may want customized exteriors with the logo of your company, photos and images of your website and you may write the phone no. or the email id too.

If you are carrying a very valuable or expensive or sensitive cargo, then you may have the color of the trailer matching with the color of the rims. You may even add custom colors to it. The interiors can also be styled out by using changing the flooring and painting the inner walls.Make sure you do the quality research before buying a trailer. Buy the trailer most suitable to your needs.

Auto Insurance, Credit Loans And Dating Travel

June 22nd, 2010 No comments

The kind of legal bond that is meant to safeguard you from the expenses that come with death, ailment, loss, or liability, is what is referred to as insurance. When you speak of car insurance, however, you refer to the kind of insurance that takes care of these same issues, but with respect to any kind of automobile – cars or trucks – and the accidents that may occur due to them.

When you consider the totality of vehicle insurance, you will find yourself looking at a package that protects you – the client – from harm to your automobile, as well as several problems that may be related owning or driving the car, as long as you are smart and adept enough at the get go to have such terms included in your policy. Insurance laws in the United States of America are generally broken down by jurisdiction, which generally are of the concession that you may take care of your liability for expenses incurred by taking out insurance coverage for single person injury, two- or more-person injury, and harm done to assets. More American states however are making it compulsory to have your car insured.

I am so in love with America because literally everything operates on credit in some way, and you can totally purchase cars without paying the money for them on the spot – why, this is almost in a niche of its own throughout the entire system. Several cases may have you taking out a loan instead to procure spanking new or secondhand vehicles using the vehicle itself as collateral, sort of like when you are taking out a home mortgage loan or something. It could be a direct loan or an indirect one, but usually the loan could last as long as the car is projected to remain useful.

There was a fresh type of car insurance introduced sometime between 1980 and 1985 for dealing with certain peculiar properties of a vehicle understood to be a lease payoff advance for the insured person relying on how the auto market flowed. Called GAP insurance/coverage, it actually really catered to that time in a cars life when it is not worth as much as you spent on it. This could be tough if you took a loan to purchase the car, something you might understand as “upside-down” equity – or negative equity – if you have done such in the United States before now.

A vehicle is damaged beyond economical repair when the value of the car is lower than the amount owed would leave its owner still owing potentially thousands of dollars on the loan. GAP protection was realized out of necessity to deal with the escalating price of cars, longer-term auto loans, and the increasing popularity of leasing, being able to provide protection for consumers with the gap between the actual value of their vehicle and the amount of money owed to the bank or leasing company.

The dating will have to be precise on the documents, however, which is left to the ingenuity of the policyholder and his auto insurance lawyers. He may have to be careful however with traveling out of the jurisdiction of his coverage, or else he would have a lot to answer for, and possibly even lose is payoff.

The Right Process To Properly Change Your Brake Pads On A Vehicle

June 21st, 2010 No comments

Almost always there is a speed bully in nearly all drivers. It gives you at some kind of each time you are commuting at the rate beyond 80 miles per hour on the highroad. On certain occasions it gives you that inescapable hunger of driving that pedal to the metal yet have you considered that there is a must for you to stop, would you find a way to do so the moment you step on that brake pedal? That is definitely one thing which you must always look into each time you unleash the speed devil deep inside you. Because of this, it is required to consistently examine your brakes especially your brake pads.

Brake pads are one of those indispensable parts of your braking system that is exposed greatly to break up. That is why it is always important to replace them when they are thinning out. Now, here are a number of tips on how you can change your very own brake pads the second it has undoubtedly served its purpose. Here are some of the objects that you must have: your useful jack, a cross wrench or whatsoever socket wrench that would work with the lug nuts of your tire, a jack stand, a C-clamp, torque wrench (if you do not have one it is fine), and surely completely new brake pads.

Slightly ease off the lug nuts of the tire. Always remember to just loosen and not fully remove it. You never want your personal auto to flop on the ground without those tires on. Grab your jack and position it on the solid section under your car. Frequently it is placed under the step board of your vehicle. Next, lift your ride high enough until the jack stand would be adjusted to take the place of your jack in keeping your car during which time you are replacing your brake pad. Repeat the same process to the other side of your car. Now that your car is safely elevated by your jack stand you can finally unlock the lug nuts on those tires. Safely remove your tires.

The next step is to; remove one of the bolts that keep your brake pads in the caliper. Immediately after removing a bolt, you can already move the caliper to loosen those pair of brake pads. Take away the previous pair of brake pads and place the new ones in but yet before doing that you have to move the caliper piston back with the use of your C-clamp to ensure that the brand new brake pads will fit. You might ask which pad should work on which part of the car. So here’s a rather quick rule, advice, just imitate how the previous pads are put up when you put those new ones in. Similar process goes on the other part of your vehicle. Whenever this bit of the procedure makes you feel like uneasy, you can opt to take it to any kind of the Denver auto repair retailers so they could suggest you instructions or show you how it is done.

Congratulations! You have just changed your car’s brake pads. It may sound difficult but if you put your heart into it, it will only be like a walk in the park.

Volkswagen Bora V6 4MOTION I’LL Have 2

June 21st, 2010 No comments

Volkswagen’s Bora mixes high levels of luxury and comfort with sporty performance from one of the best small capacity V6 engines we’ve ever tried.

Is the Volkswagen Bora V6 4MOTION the thinking man’s WRX? Perhaps. Its tenacious four wheel grip, quick engine and responsive handling are certainly impressive, although it doesn’t focus quite as much on performance as Subaru’s turbo boxer.

In the real world the Bora is best kept on flowing roads. Tight mountain passes remain the domain of the sharper, more focused WRX – the constant change of direction upsets the Bora’s slightly softer, more supple suspension. The 4MOTION four wheel drive system is good, very good in fact, and definitely set up to push the front if you’re overly optimistic in assessing corner entry speeds.

Safety is also high on the list, with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake distribution, and traction control to keep you in control. Six airbags, and state of the art body construction methods should reduce injuries if you don’t.

Volkswagen fits the sporty Bora with traction control, which – given this car is four wheel drive – may have you scratching your head. We certainly were – until we went for a spirited run in the wet. The Bora’s engine spins so easily and freely, and is so responsive that, without traction control it could run away with you.

It has to be said, though, that the Bora is not perfect. A less than precise gear-change action takes some of the polish off the six speed ‘box, and the MacPherson strut suspension misses full marks with damping poorly matched to the engine’s performance.

And so, we can’t help wondering what might have been. We’ve seen a glimpse of how fast and capable the Bora can be while still bowing to comfort and luxury.

Peugeot 206 GTi A Little Sex Kitten

June 21st, 2010 No comments

When it comes to looks this little car is a sex kitten. Sleek and well proportioned, it’s the sort of car that you could imagine purring when you run your hand across it. However, like any good feline, there’s a side to the thing that’s more than ready to scratch and spit when the mood takes it.

In the fun stuff where the corners are no more than fifty metres apart, and wind around as God intended, the handling is both precocious and forgiving. Turn the wheel and the car turns with ease and accuracy. There’s little in the way of body roll and the suspension delivers plenty of feedback to the driver. It’s not easy to get the little Pug out of shape, but if you do start the car slithering across the camber, it’s easy to control on the throttle and you never feel that things are going to turn ugly.

Which brings me to the driving position and equipment. This is a small car and you’ll have to accept that once in the seat, you are more or less slotted into position rather than lounging about in armchair-like comfort. In truth the seat adjustment is good and the general position and feel is comfortable, but there’s a fly in the soup, the foot pedals are simply too close together.

Equipment is good and easy to operate, although the column mounted radio control stick is not as simple to use as other manufacturer systems. In terms of room there’s only really room for two, anyone getting in the back will either have to be very small or only traveling a short distance.

These days how much fuel gets sucked through the engine is a key buying factor and once again Peugeot have produced a car with stunning economy. The base model 206 was astounding, returning 16.4km/l on test, and the GTi version was not far off the same. This puts Peugeots hot hatch into budget micro car territory, and is something the competition will have to work hard to match.

The Peugeot 206 GTi is a great small car that is easy on the eye, easy on the pocket to run, and immensely satisfying to own and drive. It’s not a family car, nor a commuter hatch, nor a full-on sports car. It’s a mixture of all three. It’s like a French mistress, chic and adorable, with enough rudeness to make it exciting.

Opel Zafira Put Through Its Paces

June 21st, 2010 No comments

Every now and again along comes a car that surprises you, and sometimes that’s a really nice thing!

This is the case with the Opel Zafira. From the outside it looks a lot like a whole swag of other family style people carriers, same sort of general shape, size and on paper specs. Yet here is a car that’s more than the sum of its parts.

What’s it drive like? Now here’s the good stuff. Despite the lack of stand out styling, the car drives like a good one. First off there’s the engine, also found in the Vectra. The power delivery is lively and invigorating. Even fully laden there’s plenty of grunt and the revs zip up the range with an urgency that completely belies the size of the vehicle and the design parameters.

The Zafira’s driving position is as expected; multi adjustable and allows that high and commanding view point which suits the vehicle and will appeal to a lot. Seats are comfy and supportive and the general view of the equipment from the driver’s seat is pretty satisfying with everything being where you’d expect it to be. It would have been nice to see the column mounted stereo controls found on other cars in the range fitted here also.

Giving the Zafira an engine without matching it to decent handling would be a tragic waste, and I’m pleased to report that things are well looked after in that department. As mentioned the chassis is based on the Astra, and as a result looks like the car sits quite low to the ground.

Whoever Opel gave the job of weighting the steering to, had a good handle on the relationship between what you want, and what you need. Light and accurate without divorcing the driver from the sensation of turning the wheels, which some power steering systems do, the Zaf’ is as happy do the parking lot pirouette or the bung it in and bang it on. In fact you can be forgiven for driving the thing in a manner that makes a mockery of the design purpose.

In terms of outside visibility, the Zafira wins bonus points, and it’s clear that the big H has put a lot of thought into keeping things like the ‘A’ pillar as narrow as possible, in so doing maximizing observation opportunities.

There’s a fair bit of storage space elsewhere, and some useful little compartments including one strategically placed to catch the change that falls out of your pocket and ends up under the seat supplementing the kids pocket money.

As for fuel usage, well all that down changing and performance has a cost, and even though the car slips into neutral when stationary to save fuel, as well as preventing strain on the drive line, the best I could get was 8.1 km/l (12.3l/100km).

Did we like it? The answer to that is a yes. It’s a well-rounded and practical package that puts some of the driving experience back into a class that could be as dull as coal. Try it and see if I’m right.

Smartphone Apps Help The World Go ‘Round

June 21st, 2010 No comments

Remember a few years ago when texting was the new thing? Remember when a lot of people still didn’t really know how to use it? (oh wait, that’s still true). Heck, cell phones themselves are still a pretty new concept. Have you noticed, though, how much the idea of what a cell phone is and does has changed? The fact is, the evolution of the phone is far from over–smartphone apps are still a new concept, and the technology that they keep applying in news ways isn’t done changing either. Any guesses as to what a cell phone will be 20 years from now? 50? Me neither, but here are some of the basic technologies behind the latest cell phone innovations–see if you can envision what will come next.

One of the latest big advances has been to use an accelerometer to detect and track the phone’s motions. Some of the first applications of this technology have been in the new cell phone games that draw some funny looks if you play them in public as you tip for phone from side to side. Smartphones can read that! They can also track your movement for navigation apps or even automatic collision notification (think Onstar). And this is just in the first few years that the technology has existed! Who knows where it’ll go from here?

Then there’s GPS. Your phone knows where you are, and where everything else is in relation to you, meaning that you never need to be lost again. It was not that big of a leap, therefore, to tach your phone to alert when in a severe weather area, or high crime area. Again, this technology already exists in an app. I’m willing to bet that we haven’t imagined all the applications of GPS on a phone, in conjunction with all the other technologies available.

How about internet on your phone? Do we appreciate what a leap in technology that is? If we could travel back in time (don’t get your hopes up, the future would’ve told us by now if it was ever going to happen), the past generation would be mind-blown by the concept of being connected to everything you could want to know by a device that you carry in your pocket. That is, after getting their minds blown by the idea of the internet and the idea of cell phones. I don’t doubt that we’re in for more improvements on the ways that we can connect with the rest of the world, wherever we are.

Stop and think for a moment about how far phones have come in the last 15 years. Now think how much more your phone will be able to do in 15 years, at this rate. Just as the you of 15 ears ago would be surprised at how much a phone is capable of, I feel confident that the me of today would be stunned at the phones of 2025. That it is realistic to think that technology will surprise you says a lot about the age that we live in–the world changes faster than ever, and cell phones continue to be perhaps the greatest evidence of this.

The My-911 smartphone app provides Automatic Crash Response wherever you are. See how they’re changing personal safety here.

Buying A Car With Bad Credit – Is A Good Car Loan Still Available?

June 20th, 2010 No comments

So you are looking for a great car loan but you just can’t seem to shake the bad credit history… Don’t worry!

Bad credit doesn’t have to mean the end of the road… literally! Buying a car with bad credit is possible for even those of us that think they are at a loose end.

A good way to start out buying a car with bad credit is to check out the many sites on line that offer quotes and good rates even for people with a bad credit history.

There are a few tips and helpful hints you should think about when buying a car with bad credit or applying for a car loan:

1. You may need to reference your credit history so make sure they are handy when applying.

You will need to order an up to date copy of your credit report and this will take time so make sure you order it with this in mind.

Buying a car with bad credit can have negative effects on the lender so by having the information they are asking for ready they will see you are serious.

2. A good practice is to check your credit rating at regular times. Anything that comes up can then be sorted out immediately rather than when you need the info.

By not checking the credit report you may find that there is a delay when you need it the most. Not good when buying a car with bad credit.

3. A budget is very important when buying a car with bad credit. You don’t want to get into more trouble!

How much you are looking to spend or borrow is always going to be the number one question the lender will be asking.

Only get what you can afford to pay back. If you over borrow you will only regret it later on.

4. There is a chance that you could fall into bad debt again so a lender will ask questions that prove you will not do this even though you are buying a car with bad credit.

They could ask for proof of income, pay slips, your current job information, proof of an address and much more to make sure all is legit.

All this should be ready before hand so that you aren’t wasting time looking for the information during the application.

The more information you have the more likely you will know the answer to the question and speed up the process.

Buying a car with bad credit can be much simpler following the rules above.

Maybe you’re searching for a great deal on a Low Car Loan or looking at buying a car with bad credit then check out http://lowcarloan.net for more information and helpful articles along with the easiest and cheapest quotes we have been able to find.

Holden Rare Spares – Classic Items

June 20th, 2010 No comments

The classic Australian car manufacturer named Holden was first founded in 1919. Among its many cars in its product line, the Holden Commodore is considered to be one of the all-time class and revered models. Over time, the Commodore – followed only by the Ute – has proven to be the most popular car on the market since its inception year in and year out. Throughout our more recent history, the Cruze, Captiva, and the Astra have been added to the Holden’s lineup and achieved a great deal of popularity as well.

Because the company has been in existence for so long, it only makes sense that Rare Spares should partner with them to offer factory-quality auto spares for the classic models. The partnership has led to the Holden Restoration Parts by Rare Spares programme. The programme is very similar to the partnership between certain specialised outlets and GM for their classic cars. This programme will allow owners of the classic models to find good quality auto spares easily and with confidence.

It is clear that the passion for classic Holden cars is a strong one otherwise Rare Spares would not have embarked on this production line. However, the fit is a natural one. Rare Spares, though not as old of a company as Holden, has been around for the last 30 years. The company was started in an effort to satisfy the demand of classic Holden car owners that needed parts for simple repairs or deep restorations. Rare Spares has grown into being a nationally recognised company with outlets in every state of Australia as well as some in New Zealand.

It would not be accurate to say, however, that all the owners of classic Holdens will drive beautifully restored vehicles. They may not want their vehicles to require brand new rare spares or even use reconditioned ones. They just want tires that will work effectively and properly. Since old Holden cars in Australia are so commonplace, those secondhand automobiles and reconditioned spares are able to be sourced at a mere fraction of the cost through specialty parts websites.

The vast majority of consumers purchase rare or new spares due to the fact they assume reconditioned parts with be of inferior quality. This, however, is not the case at all. Most used and second hand auto spares on the same level or even better than the common name brand counterparts. A solid spare part that has been fully reconditioned or rebuilt has the potential to save you thousands of dollars on buying a new model as well.

Specialty auto parts sites offer unbelievably cheap auto spares for the Holden collection. Owners of everything from the original 48-215 (1948) to the popular VS Commodore (1990s) will be able to obtain auto spares and accessories for next to nothing. Auto spares for the FJ (1950s) and the EH (1960s) as well as the Toranas and Monaros (1970s) are those in highest demand, but enthusiasts will be able to get top quality auto spares for almost any of these models at a fraction of the price of a new spares.

You’ll find amazing prices on Holden Rare Spares and Auto Spares? Visit holdenworld.com.au for all your Holden needs.

Mazda 6 Reveiwed

June 19th, 2010 No comments

The Mazda 6 isn’t dynamically perfect, no car is. The steering is sometimes light, the gearbox a tad jumpy, the brakes initially grabby and touchy, the tyres noisy on rough bitumen and the suspension too firm in initial damping. But when you weigh up the positives of the 6 over these ultimately insignificant negatives, the 6 comes out overwhelmingly in the black.

Mazda has designed and built a totally new medium car platform for the 6, one which will eventually be found under other Ford Motor Company products.

The interior is stylish and clean, and imparts an air of solid dependability with a touch of flair. We particularly liked the striking silver center console which manages to include all the necessary controls in an easy to use and very classy layout. The seat fabric on the base models is light and airy, the dark leather of the top models sporty and sophisticated.

Mazda is offering a total of 11 models in the 6 range, all with the same aggressive and evocative styling, flavors long missing from the medium car market. All models are powered by Mazda’s new 2.3-litre four cylinder engine, which replaces the 626′s 2.0-litre four, and has 31 percent more power and 14 percent more torque. Be warned, however, this upper class engine requires a top shelf tipple at top-up time, so you’ll be pumping more expensive premium from now on.

Attention to detail in designing and building the 6′s steel frame are said to result in a very rigid structure that Mazda says enhances suspension control and steering response. It also improves on the crash worthiness of the 626.

All 6s will be equipped with dual front airbags to protect front seat occupants, along with active safety measures like anti-lock equipped four wheel disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution.

So, how does it drive? Does this ‘new generation’ Mazda 6 live up to the rhetoric? The answer is an emphatic yes. Mazda says it bench-marked the new 6 against similarly sized – but more expensive – offerings from BMW and Audi, a point not only evident in its dynamic abilities, but also in the high level of build quality.

The Mazda 6 is a dynamic ray of sunshine in an otherwise bleak mid-size marketplace. Its high levels of driving refinement combined with its practical, livable design put it at the top end of our mid-size shopping list. The 6 Classic, which is available in all body styles, is the pick of the litter.

Overview Of The Parts Responsible For Your Car’s Emissions Control System

June 19th, 2010 No comments

A generation ago, automobiles lacked safeguards that prevented vapors from being released into the atmosphere. Research has since shown, of course, that these vapors (i.e. hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen, and carbon monoxide) are harmful to people and the environment. They are generated while your engine is in operation. Most of the vapors are released through your vehicle’s exhaust pipe, but much of it evaporates before it reaches that point.

In the late 1970s, legislation was passed to reduce the volume of emissions released by vehicles. Within a few years, most cars rolled off the factory floor equipped with an early version of today’s emission control system. In those early systems, an oxygen sensor was located somewhere in the exhaust path. It would monitor the exhaust and send the resulting data to the car’s computer. The computer would then modify the air-fuel mixture in order to minimize the emissions.

While automotive technology has evolved dramatically since then, the basic design for the emissions control system has remained largely the same (with a few notable changes). In this article, we’ll take a brief look at the individual components involved.

EGR Valve

This component monitors the level of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in the exhaust that flows between the intake and exhaust manifolds. The valve opens and a small vacuum draws exhaust into the intake manifold. This reduces the combustion temperature of your engine because the presence of exhaust gas thins the air-fuel blend within the cylinders.

The combustion process – and specifically, the high temperatures – that occurs within each of the cylinders produces NOx. The EGR valve, in diluting the air-fuel blend, also dilutes the power of the combustion process. This lowers the temperature, and thus lowers the volume of NOx.

Catalytic Converter

This component is located in the exhaust path prior to the muffler and tailpipe. It collects gases produced during combustion and released from the cylinders through the exhaust valves. Inside the catalytic converter is a sheet of catalyst material. As carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons enter the component, this sheet causes a chemical reaction. As a result, the harmful elements are left behind while harmless elements, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water vapors, exit the tailpipe.

PCV Valve

In addition to leaving the cylinders through the exhaust valves, gases produced during combustion are also found in the crankcase. The crankcase is the housing for the crankshaft. A system called the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is responsible for removing these gases and sending them to the intake manifold. There, they are re-burned during combustion. The PCV valve is the heart of this system.

The challenge with redirecting gases back to the engine is that they can lean out the air-fuel mix within the cylinders. That affects your engine’s performance. The PCV valve’s job is to control the volume of air that makes it back into the engine.

Gas Tank Emissions Container

Fuel evaporates, which releases hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. Decades ago, laws were passed to minimize the volume of hydrocarbons that resulted from this process. Hence, a fuel evaporation control system was designed to sit within a car’s gas tank and collect vapors from evaporated fuel. This system was basically a container with charcoal material inside. The charcoal collects the vapors and holds them until the engine is started and warmed. Then, the vapors are released through a valve, and vacuumed into the engine to be burned during combustion.

While each of the parts described above play a critical role in minimizing emissions, the catalytic converter is generally considered the most important component. Its development was largely responsible for spearheading the reduction of pollutants from vehicles. That said, each component is essential to the operation of your car’s emissions control system.

Buying A Used Suzuki Swift

June 19th, 2010 No comments

When looking for a good value small car, consider the Suzuki Swift. They are fun to drive, sporty, classy as well as relatively cheap to run. Many people find the ride in the Swift a bit firm, but it is this feature that gives it a sporty feel when driving, especially on a twisty country road.

For the cost the interior of a Swift is of an exceptionally high standard. Inside they look classy and smart. Everything is easily at hand and very simple to use. Whilst Swift interiors wear well you should check that the driver seat adjustment mechanism still works properly, they tend to wear over time. The Swift is blessed with very generous headroom, so 4 adults can travel in comfort. The boot on a Swift is big enough to accommodate the family’s weekly shop.

Swifts can be noisy on fast roads such as motorways and dual carriageways and the firm ride means that you feel every bump. If the majority of your journeys are long ones then the Swift may not be a good choice for you. For short journeys or journeys around town the Swift is a great car. Provided Swifts are well maintained and serviced regularly they are very reliable cars, but those that have been driven hard and not serviced will have problems. Only buy a Swift with a good service history.

The 1.3 versions run well, but can feel slightly under-powered, so it is best to buy a 1.5 model. The 1.5 has the added advantage of coming with all the mod cons, such as, key-less entry and ignition, air conditioning, and alloy wheels. Test that all the extras are working and have been well maintained. All versions come with good stereos.

Swifts have very few serious mechanical issues. When test driving a Swift pay particular attention to the gear change, make sure it is not jerky or notchy. Brakes are another area that need to be checked. On some models brake discs have worn more quickly than is normal. Examine the paint work for chips, in particular on the front of the car. Make sure that the petrol gauge is working properly to eliminate another common fault.

The Types Of Motorbikes

June 19th, 2010 No comments

Motorbikes are made to fit many purposes. And because of that every motorbike is slightly different based on what it’s build purpose was.

Nowadays because people like to travel around a lot there are lots of different uses for motorcycles and because of this motorbike sales are booming.

There are far too many cars on the road these days which causes lots of traffic jams and stress.

Motorbikes are the way to go because you avoid all of this and can cut through the traffic jams as if they weren’t there. There are more and more enviromentally friendly bikes being built and sold at the moment that focus on low fuel consumption. These bikes are known as town bikes and are a great way to travel.

When it comes to speed and racing you’ll find that the bikes are very light weight with no luggage space or racks. These bikes are made for speed, power and maximum acceleration.

I’m sure you’ve also seen the bikes with the luggage rack on the back. These bikes are made for long distance travel and are nice and comfy.

And then there are the bikes built to fit the biker image. They are just built for their looks and coolness. They’re always noisy so everyone knows they’re around. These bikes aren’t about speed or comfort. They’re all about the image.

And then of course there are the off road bikes which are a huge amount of fun. With these bikes you can go up mountains or over rocks because they’re built to pretty much go over anything. They can also be pretty dangerous.

But whatever type of bike you get remember to get a helmet. Not only do they look cool but they’ll help protect you from dying in an accident.

But at the end of the day whether you have a little scooter to get you about the town or are super bike that goes 200 mph you’ll still get that trill of freedom that you can get from owning a car.

Sales Mistake To Steer Clear Of

June 19th, 2010 No comments

Sales are de facto determinant of success and failure of any business. Regardless of the fact that you’re running an MNC or a small business, you definitely can’t think to progress in the same in case the sales remain stagnant. When sales are the most significant element for your business, you cannot manage to make mistakes in this department at all. Here is a list of some prevalent errors that could hamper the sales prospects to a brilliant degree.

Steer clear of talking way too much. It is the most common errors that majority of sales people tend to make. In case the sales person tries to become overfriendly and talks too much, it could irritate the buyers. It’s always better if the customer is more on the speaking end. So, it is suggested to persuade the prospective customer to communicate more than what you do. In case you are selling weight loss solutions such as caralluma burn slimming pills, you could ask a number of weight related questions from customers. This will help you gauge their needs far better, making it simple for you to sell your product.

An additional frequent mistake that many sales people make is talking about cost of the product in the very beginning. Whenever you’re selling a product, attempt to speak about its features and advantages, and not how reasonable and pocket friendly it is. While folks wish to purchase products that fit their budget, they do not wish to compromise on quality either. For instance, if you’re selling cost effective yeast infection cures like Yeastrol Yeast Infection Treatment, talk first about the merits of the product and then later switch to its cost.

For any organization to keep its sales level going, a continued hunt for potential customers is a must. While it is important to retain existing customers, it is also crucial to try to find new sections of the market which you could capture. This holds true even if you are selling the most successful and useful products like the Zenmed Derma Cleanse System. There are many approaches to find new and prospective customers. One of the easiest ways of going about the same would be to ask for customer referrals from existing customers. So, make sure that you don’t make the mistake of not expanding your customer base and keep elevating your sales levels.

The success or failure of a business organization rests mainly on the sales offered by the business. So, make sure that you stay clear of these mistakes and up the sales of your company.

The Motorcycle Helmet: Think Of Your Family

June 18th, 2010 No comments

Even though there are now some states out there that have decided that it is perfectly legal to not wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, it is the key piece of equipment that will save your life in the event of an accident. Some people will argue that you could still end up with head injuries, even when wearing a helmet. While this is true, it should be noted that the head injuries received, are generally not life-threatening ones, as opposed to the ones you would receive without a helmet.

There are even some people who complain that the helmet takes away from the comfort of riding. Because of this, there are many companies out there making helmets that provide essential ventilation, ear protection, face shields and even intercoms for those who like a little extra technology. When shopping for the perfect helmet for your needs, you will need to be aware of the various types of helmets available to you.

There are the full-face helmets that cover the whole head, including the base of the skull and there is a section over the front of the chin for added protection. The plastic face shields usually move in order to allow access to your face and there are usually air vents as well in order to keep you from overheating.

The open face is another option. The helmet covers the top of the skull, the back of the skull and it does not have the chin protection like the full face. The open face helmet may or may not have a face shield.

Then there are the Flip-Up helmets that is a hybrid of the open face and the full-face helmets. Consider it the best of both worlds. These are starting to become more and more popular with riders.
The helmet that provides the least amount of protection is the half helmet. It is sometimes called “shorty”;. This is because it has the same coverage for the front of the skull as the back. The face is completely open and they are known for shifting around of the riders head. This means that there is a chance it could come off in an accident.

Go over all of your options and think about your safety. Think of your family and all of the people in your life who need you to be safe.

Cleaning Your Rental Car Could Save You Money

June 18th, 2010 No comments

Everyone likes to talk about how bad rental cars are, but the simple fact is that if you rent a vehicle, it’s your responsibility to take care of it or you’re part of the problem. This means that you should keep it clean on the inside and outside as much as possible while you are making use of it, because if not, you run the risk of being charged additional cleaning fees. Avoiding these fees is fairly simple, though; it just takes a little bit of effort.

First of all, don’t smoke in the car. This is one of the worst things that you can do, because even if you smoke with the window rolled down, it will still leave an odor in the car because the smoke clings to anything it touches. This includes upholstery and carpet. De-odorizing the car costs money, so obviously the service is going to pass that cost to you.

Clean out from under the seats and anywhere else that dirt and trash can collect. It’s easy to clean out the floorboards and vacuum, but under the seats is a really easy location to miss when you’re cleaning. Things often get trapped under there that you may not realize were there until you get the bill.

Vehicle storage compartments are also great places for extra bits of trash to collect. Most vehicles come with at least a couple of these and it’s always best to go through them before you return the vehicle, even if it’s just to make sure you’re not leaving anything behind in them. This includes the glove box area, as well.

The last thing is to remember that you have taken possession of someone else’s property and to respect it as such. You wouldn’t drive around crazily and trash your favorite relative’s car and expect them to not be upset, would you? Renting a car is just like renting anything else: you have to take good care of it if you ever expect to be able to rent again in the future.
